PUNK, ROCK, AND SKA
Comeback Kid
Broadcasting
Victory Records 2007
2.5 stars
Comeback Kid is known for their powerful and driving music. It’s music that can really get a crowd going. They are also known for having a very heavy hardcore/punk rock influence, using bands like Lifetime, Madball, and Anthrax as fuel.
Comeback Kid’s previous album “Wake the Dead” had a more refined sound than in previous albums. The band was coming together and getting tighter. That album really showed promise. However “Broadcasting…” really didn’t have much evolution and progression as “Wake the Dead” did. It’s the same old Comeback Kid.
That’s not necessarily a bad thing; in fact; it’s nice that a band didn’t fold under the pressure of changing their sound just to sell some albums. Comeback Kid found their niche and their sound, and it’s smart to stick with it. “Don’t fix what’s not broken.”
“Broadcasting…” still has that fast and heavy hardcore feel to it. It’s an album that differs from all those metalcore bands that claim they are hardcore. Comeback Kid is one of the few bands that can actually say they use REAL hardcore influence (Minor Threat, Fugazi etc.)
This album is good if you like Comeback Kid from prior years, but just don’t expect anything new and mind boggling.
